5 Reasons Why You Should Get Rid of Black Mold

If you think that greenish-black substance you’ve found on your bathroom floor is harmless, then you better think twice. Black mold or better known as toxic mold has earned such name because of its lethal effects on its host. Mold removal is advised in every household for the following reasons:

1. Black mold is harmful to health
Stachybotrys, the genus of black mold, produces mycotoxin in its spores. This substance is cytotoxic, which means they can penetrate the cellular wall, causing damage to the host.

Once microscopic spores are inhaled or accidentally ingested, the following may be experienced by an individual: allergies, difficulty in breathing, cancer, central nervous system problems such as poor attention span and headache, recurring colds, cough, chronic skin problems such as dandruff, dermatitis, and skin rashes, vision problems, fatigue, kidney failure, bleeding in the lungs, and more. 

Manifestations vary from one person to another. These depend on the person’s susceptibility, of which those who are immunocompromised as the most susceptible. It’s also worth to note that the myriad of signs and symptoms may also depend on the amount and duration of exposure to black mold. 

2. Black mold destroys your home
Mold thrives in places where there is sufficient moisture and favorable amount of humidity. They feed on organic items like on clothes, books, and the like. They reproduce asexually and can infest and destroy any organic material in just a matter of days. Thus, the moment you spot a small patch of black mold in your home, you have to get rid of it immediately. Procrastinating will only give ample time for these fungi to grow and multiply. 

3. Black mold stinks
What would you feel if your guests tell you that your house stinks? Embarrassed, right? Save yourself from humiliation by getting rid of black mold as soon as you spot them in your home. Mold usually gives off this distinct smell, similar to that of urine, so locating them won’t be a problem.
